A break from our regularly scheduled programming...

My plan is to mostly stick to sewing/crafting topics with a little bit about my family.  Today, however, I'm going to air my dirty laundry a little bit - literally.  I’m going to share one of my quirks, eccentricities, whatever you want to call it.

Toe seams in socks are the bane of my existence!  There!  I said it!  It’s out in the open!  Whew….

I detest them.   It never fails that if there is a seam in a sock, it will hit my foot in the wrong place.  Then it will rub and make foot hurt.  The little knot at the end of the seam that hits your little toe is the worst offender.  Most people look at me like I’m crazy when I mention this problem I have with socks.  Chief Blessings tries unsuccessfully to hide it when laughs at me.

This quirk of mine makes me dread shopping for socks.  I’ll find a brand I like and then they stop making it.  I’ve found some great ones for running, but they are a little pricey for my cheap frugal side.

The other day, I desperately needed some more socks.  But, lo and behold, I found a package that said “SMOOTH TOE SEAMS”.  Not only that, but they had a handy dandy hole in the package for you to feel the seam yourself.  It’s like the company could read my mind.  I’ve been wearing them the last couple of days and have to say they are probably the most comfortable socks I have worn in a long time.  I think I might have to go get some more just in case they quit selling them.  I wonder if I could get some money for the company for advertising.

So, how about y’all?  Do toe seams drive you crazy?  Have you even ever noticed the seams?  Do you have other “dirty laundry” you would like to air for the viewing audience?

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…..

  1. You aren't the only person I know with that problem. But I still don't get it! Do you turn offending socks inside out???

  2. Ha ha ha....great blog Dawn. I got a chuckle out of it. I hate how my socks go down my shoe during the day. Makes me feel like an old lady. I kinda hate socks period but I suppose we can't have stinky chicken feet...

  3. Brandy, mostly I just suffer through it. And if I have the opportunity and it's bothering me enough...I take my shoe off and try to rearrange the sock. Dawn, I prefer summer when I can wear sandals. It solves the whole sock problem.

  4. I have this pet peeve also. I usually turn my socks inside out. Recently I tried the gold toe socks at kohls and they are great. They aren't inexpensive but they are worth the price. Where did you get you "no seam" socks? By the way I've enjoyed your blog. You're a great writer of your thoughts.

  5. Sandi, I have some gold toe socks for running and I love them. I need to get a few more pairs. I found these socks at Walmart. They are the No Nonsense brand.

  7. Wow! And you think you know someone :-). If only I had known you struggled with this we could have started a support group! We have a meltdown almost every morning putting socks and shoes on. I'm not above putting my 6 year old boy in girl socks if it solves this problem. May need to talk to you more about this.
